Following Donald Trump’s win over Hillary Clinton in the US Presidential elections 2016, huge protests were seen in the country. And while the critics of the new President-elect have been quite vocal and rightly so about his policies and statements, some have taken the easier way of targeting his family. These critics had earlier targetted the to be First Lady and former model Melania Trump over a few of her photoshoots and have now taken on Trump’s daughter Ivanka. Ivanka Trump, who has her own clothing line, faced the wrath of trolls on Amazon when the former started commenting on her product reviews. For example, one of the comments on Ivanka’s Issa boots for women read: “perfect for stomping on the necks of those you oppress”.
A few commenters decided to target Donald Trump’s controversial statements about his daughter. Trump, in a 2006 interview had said that Ivanka had a ‘nice figure’ and if she weren’t his daughter he would have dated her. A reviewer named Jen wrote: “My dad says they’re really hot, but they just make me uncomfortable”. “Did you ever feel like crap because your dad hasn’t told the world he’d be ‘dating’ you if you weren’t his daughter?” one of the reviewers asks.
Another troll with the name AR wrote that both the boots for some reason were ‘right’. One of them was marked extremely right while the other was ‘alt-right’, he added. One of the most common review themes was Trump’s association with Russia and the recent allegation that suggest Vladimir Putin helping Trump get to power. According to CBC Many also targetted the fact that most of Ivanka Trump’s products were manufactured in Chain among other Asian countries despite Donald Trump’s strong stand against the shipping of manufacturing jobs overseas. “These Chinese boots are just perfect, whether walking the streets with your stepmother the streets of Moscow with your dad and Uncle Vlad …or just your everyday trampling the rights of others,” one other review read.
Although Trump supporters did try to get back to these trolls, they could find people supporting the, unlike during the Presidential elections. One of these supporters said, “will keep your feet dry when walking through puddles of liberal tears”. Trump’s fight with Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos over the election coverage by the former’s Washington Post. according to Business Insider, Trump had said that Amazon would be facing ‘such problems’ if he gets elected.
