Right-wing influencer and vocal Donald Trump supporter Laura Loomer sparked online discussions after she described billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk as a “head of state” following his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Washington, D.C.
Loomer’s comment came in the form of a tweet in which she stated, “If I didn’t know anything, I’d think Elon Musk was a head of state!” The remark was made in response to Modi’s own tweet about his meeting with the Tesla and SpaceX CEO. Modi had shared details of the conversation, stating, “Had a very good meeting with @elonmusk in Washington DC. We discussed various issues, including those he is passionate about such as space, mobility, technology, and innovation. I talked about India’s efforts towards reform and furthering ‘Minimum Government, Maximum Governance.’”
Loomer’s tweet reflects how Elon Musk is increasingly perceived as a key figure in US politics. In simple terms, she implied that if someone unfamiliar with major political figures in the US were to observe, they might assume Musk holds a head-of-state-like status.

The meeting, which took place during PM Modi’s visit to the United States, highlighted Musk’s growing influence in global affairs. The billionaire has maintained close engagements with world leaders on matters concerning technology, electric mobility, space exploration, and artificial intelligence. His role as the head of Twitter (now X) has also made him a major figure in discussions on free speech and digital governance.
Loomer’s tweet reflects the perception that Musk’s global prominence has extended beyond the business world, often placing him in diplomatic circles. Musk has previously met with several world leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.
While Musk has not responded to Loomer’s comment, the social media discourse around his influence continues to grow, with many debating whether his technological and business ventures grant him a quasi-diplomatic status on the world stage.
