From what has transpired recently, it appears that the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has made a tectonic shift in their strategy as far as utilisation of women is concerned.
Earlier this terror inflicting group used to recruit women to serve as mothers and/or wives to the jihadists which has now extended to being suicide bomber or a lead in plotting and executing an attack.
The signals started coming last Sunday a week ago, when a deserted car was found early morning near the Notre Dame Cathedral, a prime tourist destination at the historical and religious heart of Paris stuffed with 5 cannisters of cooking gas and three bottles of diesel fuel.
Upon investigation it was discovered that the conspirators behind the car were women who were remote controlled by French jihadist known by the name of Rachid Kassim who was ooperating from his base in some unknown location from either Iraq or Syria under ISIS controll.
“In the last few days and hours, a terrorist cell was dismantled, composed of young women totally receptive to the deadly Daesh ideology,” Paris prosecutor François Molins told the press on Friday, using the Arabic acronym for ISIS.
“The terrorist organization uses not only women, but young women, who get to know each other and develop their plot from a distance,” said Molins.
As per police reports, there have been a detention of five women and a 15 year old boy, who was reportedly in touch with Kassim and was about to carry a knife attack.
This is a significant shift for ISIS. In the past many women have instigated their spouses to seek martyrdom and several Islamic terror organisarion have used women to carry out attacks, unlike their previous role of just bein the mother or wife for the jihadists.
