Dramatic footage has appeared of a demolition of a bridge in Chongqing in the South Western part of China. The destroyed bridge called the Yujiang bridge, which was built in 1976, is located in a densely populated area where over 10,000 people live. The area was evacuated by the authorities before the bridge was demolished in a controlled explosion. The authorities had used 1.5 tonnes of explosives to cause 3,000 blasts on the bridge, which led to the demolition of the bridge in the blink of an eye. The company which demolished the bridge used a milli-second-delay control method for the blasts as per the Business Insider.
The bridge which was destroyed in a second will be replaced by a new bridge which will span the river. Officials have said that the bridge had to be destroyed and replaced as it had become unsafe. An official told the media that the cleanup of the river under the bridge would take two to three months. The official said ”The clean up of the river would take as many as two to three months. The waterway would be made navigable again after the clean up is completed.” The official also added that after the cleanup, the piers of the new bridge would be constructed, Business Insider reported.
