Florida High School Shooting in US: In one of the deadliest school shootings in US in recent times, a gunman has killed 17 people, including students at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida’s Parkland. It has been learnt that of 17 people, 12 were students. US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have expressed grief and condolences. Meanwhile, a student of the Indian-American community has also received injuries and is recuperating in hospital. The incident has once again rekindled the debate over the age-old issue of gun control laws in America and evoked sharp political reactions. The instance of Cruz attacking and snatching lives of innocent people has once again pointed out the vulnerable state of US schools, with Congressman Donald M Payne claiming that 46 children are shot in the US every day. The attacker has been arrested and identified as Nikolas Cruz, a former student at the same school where the incident occurred, the Broward County police said.

Nikolas Cruz is 19 years old and studied at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, where the shooting took place.
He was expelled from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School for disciplinary reasons, according to Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel. Israel also said that the suspect had countless magazines.
Talking to media, Israel told reporters Cruz was the killer and he has been taken into custody. Police have already begun to dissect the websites and social media platforms that he was on, Israel said, adding that some of the things about Cruz are “very, very disturbing”.
Cruz was carrying an AR-15 rifle. Police said that they were trying to ascertain whether he had a second arm or not. The suspect was treated and released to the police, according to reports.
Cruz had opened fire in and outside of the school building. Out of the 17 deceased, 12 were inside the building, two were shot dead just outside the building, one was on a street outside the school.
It has been learnt that the school has quite a number of Indian-American students and at least one student from the community was injured in the incident. The student, a ninth grader, sustained minor injuries as he was hit by splinters. He is being treated at a hospital. “This is a sad day for the country and the community. We all Indian-Americans are praying for the victims,” Shekar Reddy, whose friend’s son was among those injured in the mass shooting, told a news agency. Authorities said several victims were being treated at the hospital. Three of them are in critical conditions and another three stable.
The mass shooting, which is said to be 18th school shooting of the year in the US. President Donald Trump said in a tweet, “My prayers and condolences to the families of the victims of the terrible Florida shooting. No child, teacher or anyone else should ever feel unsafe in an American school.”
