The FBI had come across these e-mails in a case where Clinton's close aide Huma Abedin's husband Rep. Anthony Weiner was being investigated for sexting a minor.
The former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani has revealed that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) insiders leaked US presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton e-mail information related to her private server to Republican rival Donald Trump, hitting her campaign hard and directly leading to her lead in the polls, once seemingly insurmountable, slipping by a big margin. Giuliani said that he was privy to the fact that the FBI intended to review and unveil more emails well ahead of the public announcement regarding the case – the investigation has been one of the biggest reasons holding Hillary back and allowing Trump to stay in contention for the top job in the US. Now, that a new probe has been announced, it is expected to hurt Clinton’s chances at the polls.
The FBI had come across these e-mails in a case where Clinton’s close aide Huma Abedin’s husband Rep. Anthony Weiner was being investigated for sexting a minor. Abedin shared her laptop with her husband and thereby potentially compromised US security. Giuliani has close links with the FBI, going as far as the 1980s, according to the Daily Beast, and his words carry weight and as such, these are explosive claims that may have far-reaching consequences. He had indicated that FBI agents were not happy with the way the case against Clinton had gone so far and in fact it had been closed without an indictment. Just a couple of days before the new FBI revelations were made, Giuliani had said that there were a ‘couple of surprises’ still left with the Trump campaign.
What has brought his role under the scanner are his comments. He has said, as per The Huffington Post, “Did I hear about it? You’re darn right I heard about it, and I can’t even repeat the language that I heard from the former FBI agents.” He added that he expected the FBI announcement to come well before it actually did. Indicating the frustration in the FBI over the Clinton case, Giuliani said, “…there’s a revolution going on inside the FBI and it’s now at a boiling point.”
