China has weighed in on the escalating tensions in West Asia, cautioning against further military action after Donald Trump threatened to push Iran “back to the Stone Age.” Beijing stressed that intensifying conflict would not lead to a lasting solution.

Responding to the remarks, Chinese officials emphasised the importance of restraint and dialogue, warning that continued escalation could worsen instability in the region.

“Military means cannot fundamentally solve any issue, and escalation of the conflict does not serve any party’s interest,” China Daily quoted Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning as saying.

China calls for restraint amid rising tensions

The statement comes at a time when Washington’s increasingly aggressive rhetoric has raised fears of a broader confrontation. Trump recently signalled that the US could intensify its military campaign against Iran in the coming weeks.

“We are going to hit them extremely hard over the next two to three weeks. We are going to bring them back to the stone ages, where they belong. In the meantime, discussions are ongoing,” the US President said.

Trump doubles down on military objectives

In a televised address, Trump reiterated that US operations were nearing their goals, while also making striking claims about the impact of the offensive on Iran’s leadership structure.

“Regime change was not our goal. Regime change was not our goal. We never said regime change, but regime change has occurred because of the deaths of all of their original leaders. They’re all dead,” Trump said.

He further maintained that military action would persist until Washington’s objectives were fully met, suggesting that the campaign was approaching its final phase.

“We will continue until our objectives are fully achieved. Thanks to the progress we’ve made, I can say we are on track to complete all of America’s objectives shortly, very shortly,” he added.

The exchange highlights deepening geopolitical tensions, with global powers increasingly voicing concern over the risk of prolonged conflict and its potential consequences for regional and international security.
