The US-Israeli attack against Iran intensified on Saturday — with Tehran leading a barrage of retaliatory attacks targeting Gulf countries. Fresh blasts were reported in Dubai, Doha and Manama on Saturday evening as these countries intercepted missiles and drones, with UAE intercepting at least 15 ballistic missiles and 119 drone attacks. The attacks came even as Iran had pledged to not attack its neighbouring countries, with a condition that no attacks should originate from those regions.
Earlier in the day, a minor incident resulting from the fall of debris took place at Dubai airport after an interception, while Qatar sent out a frantic mobile alert to all Doha residents in the afternoon.
Here are all key developments that took place on March 7
- Fresh explosions were reported in Dubai, Doha and Manama on Saturday, with the UAE thwarting 15 ballistic missiles and 119 drone attacks.
- UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited those wounded at the hospital, reassuring them that their safety is the country’s responsibility. “The UAE is not easy prey,” he said.
- CBSE has postponed Class 12 examinations in the Middle East. Further update on the matter will be provided on March 12.
- Dubai’s flagship carrier, Emirates, has resumed operations. This includes customers transiting in Dubai, if their connecting flight is also operating.
- Earlier in the day, Dubai airport briefly suspended all operations after a drone struck the runway — with passengers ushered down into train tunnels as several blasts were heard and the alert sounded. It later confirmed partial resumption of operations.
- Emirati authorities send mass mobile phone alerts about possible missile threats to mobile phones in Dubai on Saturday morning over “potential missile threats”.
- Qatar Airways is now operating limited flights into Doha. Six aircraft will connect the city through a “safe corridor” on Sunday while the airspace remains closed. The state-owned airline said the flights will come from five European cities as well as Bangkok.
- Residents of Doha received a mobile alert warning about “heightened threat” in the afternoon. Minutes later the Defence Ministry of Qatar said in a statement that armed forces had just intercepted a missile attack.
- Saudi Arabia reported a similar situation, neutralising nearly two dozen drones targeting the strategic Shaybah oil field in the morning. Officials also confirmed the “interception and destruction” of a ballistic missile and a cruise missile aimed at Prince Sultan Air Base in Al-Kharj.
