In a landmark decision, President of the United States, Donald J Trump on Friday announced US’s pull out from Paris Climate accord. In his reaction, former President of the US Barack Obama said, “Trump administration is joining `small handful of nations that reject the future’ with climate pact withdrawal.” Earlier, it had been reported by Reuters that Trump had been preparing to pull out of the Paris accord. Donald Trump had on Twitter, said that he would be making the announcement tonight in the White House Rose Garden. He had ended his tweet with “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” A withdrawal by the USA, as Trump had promised during his Presidential campaign in 2016 will put the US in the same group as Syria and Nicaragua as the only countries in the world that are yet to participate in the landmark 195 nation accord signed in Paris in 2015.
According to a White House document with Reuters, Trump is expected to say the Paris agreement “front-loads costs on American people”. Trump is also expected to indicate that the decision fulfills his promise to “put American workers first.” He is not exactly scrapping the entire thing, but is expected to indicate that he is seeking “a better deal”.
According to experts, this will lead to speeding up of global climate change that may well cause floods, droughts and ever stronger storms. During his presidential campaign Trump had said the accord could cost the U.S. trillions of dollars and lead to no great benefit. Trump has even dubbed climate change as a hoax. His vow then was to scrap the Paris deal within 100 days of becoming president.
