US President Donald Trump has been repeating his ultimate policy agenda repeatedly, which is to make America great again. With his president-ship running into one controversy after another, the Chinese have taken a dig at the US system and leadership. An op-ed published in the People’s Daily has boasted about how the world’s regard for the U.S. is declining and how the malfunctioning US is allowing enough space globally to make China great again. On the eve of trade talks that took place between the two countries, reports have emerged highlighting the lack of leadership in the US which is, in turn, helping China become “great again.”

The People’s Daily op-ed outlined the political chaos that is prevailing in the U.S. and dubbed it a failed system. The political ruckus in the United States is the reason why Washington failed to get anything done, it said. The broken system in the US is an opportunity for China to steal away the spotlight from them. It is giving China an opportunity to shine again, it added.

This is not the first time China has insulted the political condition prevailing in the U.S. Previously, Chinese President Xi Jinping had spoken lowly of the US in his “Chinese Dream” slogan. The only difference is that this time, the tone is a lot sharper. The op-ed read, “U.S. foreign policy is in total disarray, and world regard for the U.S. has plummeted. Indeed, America is making China ‘great again.’ Once the world’s model, the great American meltdown has turned the U.S. into some bizarre soap opera.”

Meanwhile, US aims to reduce the $300 billion trade deficit with China and is pressuring China on opening up its markets to its goods and to bring in foreign involvement and create jobs for Americans. On the contrary, the Chinese government says that their investment has always helped the US.
