BMW has officially unveiled the new 7th-gen M5 which now comes with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
Called the M Hybrid, the new M5 uses the same 4.4-litre V8 twin-turbo petrol motor which is nopw paired with a with an electric motor.
Power is transferred to all four wheels via an 8-speed ZF-supplied automatic gearbox with BMW's X-Drive all-wheel drive technology offered as standard.
The IC engine develops a maximum output of 585 horsepower and a peak torque of 750 Nm while the electric motor dishes out 197 horses.
Total output stands at 727 bhp and 1005 Nm of torque. The electric motor draws power from a 18.6 kWh battery located under the body.
Top speed is limited to 250 kmph, but the limiter can be raised to 305 kmph. 0-100 kmph acceleration can be reached in 3.5 seconds.
The new M5 can run on pure EV mode for 65-67 km in the WLTP cycle with speeds up to 140 kmph and supports AC charging up to 7.4kW.
Driver also has the option to switch to 2WD in which case the power is transferred to the rear wheels with the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system switched off.
Further, the M xDrive comes with an electronically controlled Active M Differential at the rear axle
Inside the new M5, it gets a flat-bottomed M leather steering wheel with illuminated M buttons, M multifunction seats with electric adjustment, BMW’s latest Curved Display
In terms of features, Head-Up Display, a Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System, a wireless charging tray, four-zone automatic climate control, heated steering wheel, etc.
