B2 visa: A 31-year-old man from Delhi shared his B2 visa approval experience on Reddit, giving hope and guidance to other applicants. He completed his biometrics on October 28 at 5:15 PM and attended the visa interview on November 18 at 10:40 AM, despite having zero travel history.

Questions ranged from visit purpose to business and property details

During the interview, the applicant was asked about the purpose of his visit. “Visiting a friend in Brooklyn,” he replied. When asked about his friend, he said, “She’s doing her masters from xxx university, it’s her second year.” Questions about his professional background followed, to which he explained, “I have a family business/store. I have been handling it since past 10 years with my father.” The officer then asked about the number of employees, properties, turnover, and salary. “Yes, 2 individual builder floors on which he questioned what are they so had to explain him a little and I fumbled here because I was really nervous now. My business turnover is XX crores. I mentioned the amount I withdraw, but I fumbled because I was nervous and couldn’t answer exactly due to the barrage of questions,” he wrote.

“Any FD in your name?” the officer asked. “I might have. To be honest I am not aware of it, my father must have done it in my name,” the user replied. After a brief pause, the officer placed his four fingers of the left hand on the passport, took it in his hand and kept it on his left. “Your visa has been approved,” he said with a gentle smile. “Thank you officer,” the applicant said, rushing out in happiness.

He also described the challenges of the day. The waiting queue was long, and as someone with arthritis, standing for hours was difficult. He parked his car at Yashwant Palace, leaving his phone inside, and took an auto to the embassy, paying extra fare in his excitement.

Strong ties to India cited as key to approval

Reflecting on the experience, he credited his strong ties to India as the key reason for approval, noting that he took only the DS-160 form and confirmation page to the interview.

This account highlights the importance of preparation, clear answers, and demonstrating strong connections to the home country for visa approvals, particularly for applicants with no prior travel history.
