Singer Lucky Ali took to X and shared his opinion on Zohran Mamdani and Rahul Gandhi. He pointed out “something very similar between our own Rahul Gandhi and Zohran Mamdani.” As per Ali, the similarity is called “humanity”.

This comes after Mamdani defeated his opponent, Andrew Cuomo, to formally secure his party nomination for the New York Mayoral election. Scheduled for November, the 33-year-old made steady headway to secure the 50% threshold needed to avoid a second count.

Lucky Ali’s social media

Going back to previous posts made by Ali, his support for both Mamdani and Gandhi seems evident. Reposting a video from another page, he shared a video on his social media handle. It was captioned, “That’s why they hate him. Potentially having a mayor that isn’t puppeted by billionaires is a scary thing…” It was a video supporting Mamdani’s campaign and emphasising his modest living for the community.

At the same time, he has reposted a series of images and videos in support of Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party. While his interests remain seemingly led by community, he has also supported posts condemning Trump, especially during his second time in office. The reshared post read, “Het(Trump) has no conviction, stands for nothing, has no vision & is leading the US demise…” This came during the Iran-Israel war and ahead of the US’ cessation effort towards the countries at war.

Who is Zohran Mamdani?

Zohran Mamdani, a New York State Representative from Queens, is running for the Mayoral Elections in November 2025. Among the 12 candidates, Mamdani narrowed down the clash between the two. His contemporary, Andrew Cuomo was left behind as he succeeded in securing his party’s nomination.

In 2020, he was elected to the New York State Assembly for the 36th District, becoming the first South Asian man, the first Ugandan, and the third Muslim to hold that position.

To connect with South Asian voters, his campaigns always had an element that they could relate to. His campaign videos took netizens by storm, which drew from iconic Bollywood movies and he delivered multiple campaign speeches in Hindi.
