Everything from iconic memes to stills from films, OpenAI has taken over the internet by generating Studio Ghibli-like portraits within seconds with ChatGPT’s new image generation tool “4o Image Generation”. In its announcement, OpenAI called it the “most advanced image generator yet, built into GPT‑4o” which features a multimodal model with the capacity to give precise, accurate and photorealistic outputs.

How to create Ghibli Style Images?

For now, free users of Chat GPT cannot access this feature as it is only available for the Plus, Pro and Team subscriptions however, users can easily use Grok or Gemini to generate similar if not the same outputs.

  1. Open a fresh chat window
  2. Type in your prompt and remember to add “in Ghibli style” for the image you wish to generate
  3. Download and use it as per your purpose

Using free models of the Grok and Gemini models, use prompts like “Generate a serene image of a field of grass with a girl playing with a dog in a studio ghibli style”. Also try uploading your photograph and prompt “Convert this image to a Ghibli style”. Within seconds you will have your very own studio ghibli portrait.

Netizens are all over this feature as they recreate famous memes and images. OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman also joined the fun as he changed his X image toa ghibli version of himself.

In the announcement, Sam Altman shared that “it’s an incredible technology/product” and said that it represents today’s acceptance of creative freedom emphasising that it isn’t aimed to create offensive content unless intended by the user themself.
