Widely considered as the world’s richest YouTuber MrBeast, aka Jimmy Donaldson, has indeed spoken out about having “negative money” recently. But, has the situation spiralled to the extent that he was forced to file for bankruptcy? A viral post on X will have you believing in these “broke” allegations.
However, confirming the source itself will give you a firm answer on whether you should be relying on the so-called news flash “MrBeast has filed for bankruptcy” going around on the Internet or not.
Has MrBeast filed for bankruptcy?
The issue broke cover on social media when a popular account with tens of thousands of followers on X, bearing the blue ‘verified’ tick declared that MrBeast, who is said to have a net worth of $2.6 billion, had filed for bankruptcy.
The post emerged online on Friday evening, January 16. At the time of writing, the viral share had already amassed nearly 5 million views and more than 10,000 likes. However, many failed to rationally weigh the account’s credibility.
The X poster in question goes by the username ‘@HoopsCrave,’ and is famously known to share hilariously inaccurate or push perverted interpretations of the real account. Notably, the admins of the X page don’t shy away from flashing their real identity in the account’s bio either.
Since the page’s name is identical to the rather reliable and popular pop culture account called ‘Pop Crave’ on X, many choose to simply believe in hearsay disseminated by ‘Hoop Crave’ as well. However, the admins themselves have openly declared in their X bio that it is nothing but a parody account that has no affiliation whatsoever with the original Pop Crave account.

And so, in simple words, there is no official confirmation about MrBeast filing for bankruptcy. But that’s not to say that the YouTuber hasn’t been vocal about his financial struggles in the recent past.
Is MrBeast broke? What he really said about his financial condition
Earlier this month, the YouTube billionaire admitted in a Wall Street Journal video, “I’m borrowing money right now — that’s how little money I have.” As unbelievable as it may sound, Jimmy Donaldson also claimed, “technically, everyone watching this video has more money than me.”
“It’s funny talking about my personal finances, because no one ever believes anything I say,” said the YouTuber who’s famously known to conduct giveaways as part of big-scale promotions for his channel or shows like Beast Games. Numerous videos documented on his own YouTube page have often captured him on camera while gifting big chunks of cash or other items to his followers and supporters.
This wasn’t the first time that MrBeast made such a personal confession about his bank statements. The most-subscribed-to YouTuber even made a similar point last summer, when he revealed that had to borrow money from his mother for his own wedding, adding that he “had very little money” since he tries to “reinvest everything,” as per a previous X post.
In this month’s WSJ video, he reiterated, “They’re like, ‘You’re a billionaire!’ I’m like, ‘That’s net worth.’ I have negative money right now.”
MrBeast’s net worth and business valuation
As already established by Donaldson in the WSJ interview, his vast net worth is not an accurate representation of the depth of his bank accounts. While he claims to be actually cash poor, MrBeast has an estimated net worth of $2.6 billion, part of which is a direct result of his $5 billion entertainment empire, as per Fortune.
Being a member of the ultra-rich club, MrBeast owns more than half of his $5 billion company Beast Industries. According to Fortune, he also has his nine-figure Amazon deal and YouTube channel, which garners billions of lifetime views.
His business streak also corresponds to his attachment to venture launches, including the multi-million-dollar chocolate brand Feastables; Lunchly; MrBeast Burger, a virtual restaurant allowing pickup and drop-off; and his production company MrBeast LLC.
Moreover, Forbes also indicated that MrBeast’s annual earnings between April 2024 and April 2025 touched $85 million.
