A video showing a Zepto delivery executive being attacked by two unidentified men in Bengaluru has gone viral on social media, prompting the police to register a case on Friday.
The incident took place around 8 pm on January 4, when the delivery executive, identified as Deepak Kumar, had picked up an order from the Zepto godown on 29th Cross, Kaggadasapura, the Bengaluru police said.
Assault caught on video
According to authorities, while Kumar was taking a right turn at a junction, two men riding another two-wheeler from the opposite direction applied sudden brakes, lost balance and fell onto the road. After the fall, the men reportedly started assaulting Kumar without any provocation.

The video shows the attackers punching Kumar in the face, hitting him with their helmets, knocking him to the ground, and repeatedly kicking him. Despite attempts by bystanders to stop the attack, the men allegedly continued assaulting Kumar as he lay on the road. At one point, an elderly man from the crowd stepped in and slapped one of the attackers. The crowd then rushed at the attacker, forcing him to run away from the spot.
The police said no formal complaint had been filed, but they took suo motu action after the video went viral and registered a case against the unidentified men, the IE report said.
“A team has been deployed to trace both the accused. Further developments will be intimated,” a senior police officer said.
Public reaction online
The video, posted on X (formerly Twitter) on January 9, sparked strong reactions online. Netizens called the attack “inhuman” and demanded strict punishment, while also raising concerns about the increasing risks for delivery workers on Bengaluru’s busy roads. No statement from Zepto has been issued so far.
“You can clearly see that he stopped his vehicle when he saw the other riders, but those two were unable to control their vehicle. Poor delivery boy,” a user wrote on X.
One more user shared his thoughts saying, “Why is only Bangalore devolving into this gradually?are the protectors of the law blind or conveniently so?Need exemplery punishment for such acts.Bangalore should be ashamed of its image right now”.
