Bengaluru police on Sunday arrested a 25-year-old man for threatening a family travelling in a car with a dagger during a road rage incident in Whitefield. The accused, identified as Sayed Arbaz Khan from RT Nagar, works at a fish shop, according to a report by The Indian Express.

The incident happened on Friday near the Nexus Shantiniketan mall. As per the FIR filed by the Kadugodi police, Khan, who was riding a bike, allegedly stopped the complainant’s car, shouted abuses, took out a dagger and threatened the people inside the vehicle before speeding away, according to the report.

Dashcam footage from the car showed Khan getting off his scooter after an argument over traffic and waving the weapon in a threatening way, police said. Officers tracked him down using the scooter’s registration number, which was clearly visible in the dashcam video. The police said the scooter was registered in Khan’s name.

Khan booked under Arms Act 

Khan has been charged under the Arms Act and sections 126 (wrongful restraint), 351 (criminal intimidation) and 352 (intentional insult meant to provoke a breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the report mentioned.

Accused has four past criminal cases

Police also said Khan has four previous cases against him – two for causing injuries, one for planning a dacoity, and one for bike theft in Bengaluru, IE reported.

‘Police will not tolerate any acts of road rage’, says Whitefield Deputy Commissioner 

The Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Whitefield Division posted on X (formerly Twitter) saying, “Bengaluru City Police will not tolerate any acts of road rage or any behavior that disrupts public peace and law and order. Strict and swift legal action will be taken against individuals involved in violent behavior, display of weapons, threats, or indecent conduct in public places”.

He added, “Such incidents create fear and unrest among the general public. In order to ensure road safety and maintain public peace, Bengaluru City Police follow a zero-tolerance policy towards road rage. Citizens are requested to remain calm, act responsibly, and cooperate with the law.”
