Agni Dev Chopra, the son of celebrated filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra and film critic Anupama Chopra, has officially debunked viral reports claiming he registered for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 auction. Terming the news “fake and misleading,” the cricketer took to social media to clarify that he has no association with the Pakistan-based T20 league.

The controversy erupted after a player list surfaced on the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) official website for the PSL’s 11th edition. The list featured Agni Dev’s name as a US citizen with a base price of PKR 600,000.

Addressing the speculation via Instagram, Agni Dev stated, “I would like to clarify that I have not enrolled for the PSL. I remain fully focused on my cricket journey in the USA and my long-term career goals.” His mother, Anupama Chopra, further amplified the denial by sharing the statement across her social media platforms.

A Record-Breaking Stint in Indian Domestic Cricket

Before shifting his focus to the United States, Agni Dev established himself as one of the most prolific run-getters in Indian domestic cricket. Representing Mizoram, his breakthrough came during the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy Plate season, where he finished as the leading run-scorer. He made history by becoming the first player in first-class cricket to smash centuries in each of his first four matches.

In his debut season, he amassed 939 runs at an average of 78.25, earning the BCCI’s prestigious Madhavrao Scindia Award. He followed this with a monstrous 2024-25 campaign, scoring over 1,800 runs in just 11 matches at a staggering average of 94.94.

Why Agni Dev is Focusing on USA Cricket

Born in Detroit and holding an American passport, Agni Dev’s eligibility as a US citizen led to his name being falsely linked to the PSL as an “overseas associate player.” However, the left-handed batter and off-spinner has now categorically ended the rumors.

By distancing himself from the PSL 2026 auction, Agni Dev has reiterated that his immediate priority is his professional growth within the American cricket circuit. His firm stance puts an end to days of intense speculation that spanned both the sporting and cinematic worlds.
