Keeping Narsingh Yadav Olympic dream on hold, Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) on Wednesday named Praveen Rana as his replacement for the  74kg freestyle category. Freestyle wrestler Rana had earlier won a gold medal in the 74kg category at the Dave Schultz Memorial wrestling tournament in USA in 2014, while NADA is set to announce their judgement on Yadav’s doping case.

Defending the move, WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh said, “On Jul 19, the doping case of Narsingh Yadav came to light. Soon after it, we wrote to FILA (world wrestling body) explaining them the entire situation and requesting for another chance as our government takes such issues seriously.”

Following our request, United World Wrestling (UWW) permitted us to choose his replacement by July 25. Thereby, we have sent Praveen Rana’s name as suggested by the Chief coach. Yadav’s hearing us scheduled for today and if he comes out clean, we shall request the Federation to consider him once again.
