In Dambulla on Sunday, Virat Kohli and his blue army won against Sri Lanka by nine wickets with 21.1 overs to spare – India’s biggest victory in this format in terms of balls remaining. On one hand, where Shikhar Dhawan toyed with the Sri Lankan bowling to remain 132 not out off 90 balls, Indian captain Kohli sauntered to an unbeaten 82 off 70 balls. Dhawan managed to score 20 boundaries and three sixes. For his spectacular innings, Dhawan was awarded the Man of the Match. But there was a moment during the match when Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan could not decide whether to take a run or not. Seeing this, Captain Kohli sitting in the pavilion, started to laugh.
The incident took place on the first ball of the fifth over of the match with Malinga at the bowling end. Malinga bowled a full-length ball and Rohit Sharma played a straight drive in reply. The mid-on fielder miss-fielded, but then Dhawan’s was more concerned about the ball and completely forgot to take a run. At this moment lack of communication was quite apparent between the two batsmen. Amidst all this Dhawan who had to run towards the striker’s end ran back to the non striker’s end but then later ran fast to reach the batting end. Seeing this on TV, Kohli who was sitting in the pavilion laughed at the incident.

However, the relief did not last long as Rohit Sharma was run out for 13 in the same over! This time, in the affair of taking a single, his bat slipped from his hand just before reaching the crease and to his consternation, while he would have otherwise made it safely, because he did not have teh willow, he was caught with his feet in the air, rather than inside the crease when the ball hit the stumps! It is unclear what Kohli’s reaction was, however. India is now 1-0 up in the five-match ODI series. Kohli has won four consecutive matches on this tour so far which includes the three Test-match series. Both the teams will play their second ODI in Pallekele on August 24.
