Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani may miss the upcoming Copa America quarter-final clash against Chile after his father was detained by police over a fatal car crash, the national team coach Oscar Tabarez has said.

Luis Cavani reportedly killed a 19-year-old motorcyclist on Monday night and was subsequently detained by police in the town of Salto.

Tabarez said that the striker has all their full backing but stated that the player is affected by the incident and they would let time pass so that he could adapt to the situation, the Guardian reported.

However, the coach didn’t confirm the Paris Saint-Germain striker’s place in the side to face Chile on Wednesday.
