There are still three weeks left for the release of Akshay Kumar starrer Toilet: Ek Prem Katha but it is already making a lot of headlines and this time not due to good reasons though. Earlier, Praveen Vyas had alleged that his 2016 docudrama Manini was also based on the same idea and then a Jaipur-based filmmaker claimed that the punchline and subject of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha is similar to Gutrun Gutar Gun, a film which he finished way back in 2015. Film’s first song ‘Hans Mat Pagli’ also got mixed reviews on social media platforms for allegedly glorifying stalking.
Now, according to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the Madhya Pradesh-based woman who was actually the inspiration behind this film has refused to take the decided amount of Rs 5 lakh and is demanding a share in the film’s profits. Anita Bai Narre from Chichouli village of Betul district in Madhya Pradesh was in the news when she decided to walk out of her marital home back in 2011 saying that she’ll only come back if her husband and in-laws construct a toilet in the house. Once the toilet was constructed, Anita came back to her house.

The incident brought her a lot of name and fame. Anita became a popular figure in the region and was even handed over a cheque of Rs. 5 lakh by the then Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh. She had agreed for the same amount for making the film. However, when movie’s leading actress and director Shree Narayan Singh paid Anita a visit recently and handed her the cheque, she refused to take it saying that they will only sign the agreement if they get a share of the film’s profit.
According to the report, Sanjay Shukla, a local journalist broke the news and claimed that the agreement has a clause that says that Toilet: Ek Prem Katha is based on Anita’s life. But Sandeep Shridhar, from the film’s production team, refuted these claims. He said that it’s just a routine contract to protect the filmmakers from facing legal hurdles and added that the team wasn’t even aware of Anita’s presence when they started conceptualising the script.
