In a pre-match press conference, the BCCI declared that Karnataka batsman Manish Pandey will replace Mumbai batsman Ajinkya Rahane, while another Mumbaikar Shardul Thakur has been named as a backup for Mohammad Shami, ahead of the 4th Test which starts tomorrow morning. The Mumbai bowler has been in the scheme of things with Team India earlier, though he has warmed the benches on previous occasions. Prior to this, captain Virat Kohli briefed the media that the team management will take a final call on Shami this evening, as the dependable fast bowler felt a bit of soreness in his knee after the 3rd Test in Mohali.

The team management doesn’t want to take a chance with Shami’s fitness as, presently he spearheads the pace attack, forming a deadly combo with Umesh Yadav. Meanwhile, fast bowler Ishant Sharma is back to full fitness and is raring to go. He recently got married in Delhi.

Ajinkya Rahane hasn’t been among the runs in this series, after producing a fine knock of 188 against New Zealand in the previous series. He injured his fingers during net-session and has been ruled out of the remaining two Tests. Chances are that KL Rahul may make a comeback and open the batting with Murali Vijay. Meanwhile, comeback wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel may drop down the middle order. Most likely, Manish Pandey may debut tomorrow and Karun Nair may continue to warm the bench.
