Sports Minister Vijay Goel transforms Parliament area into football stadium, promotes FIFA U-17 World Cup in unique way

In a bid to promote the FIFA Under-17 World Cup that will be held in India later this year, the current Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Vijay Goel decided to do something unique. He organised a mass Football Distribution Programme for MPs in the Parliament on Wednesday morning. The event was kicked off by the Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan who in a unique gesture, presented footballs to all the members of Parliament of both the houses near the Gandhi statue.

Many MPs actively took part in the event including the former India football captain and Arjuna Awardee, MP, Prasun Banerjee who showed his love for the game by displaying some amazing tricks. Vijay Goel himself shared a video of Banerjee juggling the ball with a caption reading as, “Former #India football captain, Arjuna Awardee & MP, Sh.Prasun Banerjee showing his love for football, don’t miss this one!”

The striking point of the event was the active participation of the women MPs. Many MPs along with the speaker Sumitra Mahajan were seen in action showing their skills. They kicked, celebrated and even posed for the camera. The MPs were joined by former Indian football team captain Baichung Bhutia and the chief of Indian football, Praful Patel. Vijay Goel promised that he’ll do everything to promote the game in India with another tweet which read as, “Joined the action! Will do everything possible to boost #sports culture in #India as we gear up for #FIFAU17WC along with #MissionXIMillion.”

The final of FIFA U-17 World Cup will be played in the iconic Salt Lake Stadium of Kolkata on Oct0ber 28. Navi Mumbai and Guwahati will be hosting the semi-finals of the global event which is being seen as a major step to promote football in India. The country is hosting the competition for the first time. The tournament will start in New Delhi and Navi Mumbai with the first double headers being held on October 6, while the four quarter-finals will be held in Goa, Guwahati, Kochi and Kolkata.
