Defending champion Serena Williams came out with yet another splendid performance as she beat Garbine Muguruza of Spain to lift her sixth Wimbledon singles title.
World number one Serena defeated Muguruza 6-4, 6-4 on the Centre court to claim her 21st Grand Slam title and the third one this year, the BBC reported.
The top seed withstood a late fight-back from 20th seed Muguruza and defeated the latter in the match that lasted for one hour and 23 minutes.
Muguruza, who was playing her first Grand Slam final, took a 4-2 lead, before giving Serena a mighty scare by battling back from a set and 5-1 down with two breaks of serve.
Jubilant at her victory, Serena said she was having a lot of fun on the court, adding that she always had pleasure in playing and winning at the Wimbledon.
The 33-year-old will now compete at the US Open, aiming to complete the first calendar year Grand Slam of her career.
