Ahead of the much-awaited individual vault finals, Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar said that she will give her best efforts in the finals. India’s only gymnast in the prestigious Rio Olympics 2016 will be performing on 14th August. She said, “I am excited, not nervous. Efforts will be to give my best.” She also asked her fans to pray that the day ends up in her favour. Olympics debutant Dipa Karmakar created history as she stretched and flexed her way to the vault finals becoming India’s first woman gymnast to qualify for Olympics. Finishing 8th in the qualifying round, Dipa was able to achieve one of the toughest vaults in gymnastics with her outstanding performance. She performed the ‘Produnova’ vault and secured total points of 14.850 after two attempts.
Securing a 7.000 and 8.1 on difficulty and execution in her first attempt, Dipa attained 6.000 in her second attempt. She is also the first Indian woman gymnast to win the Commonwealth Games. Dipa Karmakar was denied taking her physio along with her to Rio De Janeiro in case of any emergencies occur while performing the ‘vault of death’ by the Sports Authority of India (SAI). Not just the young gymnast, but the entire nation will be looking forward to her performance in the final round of the individual vaults in the Rio Olympics 2016.
