Rio 2016 Olympics India’s Day 3 preview: The Indian contingent in Rio has been active at the various sporting events they have participated in and although no medals have come our way, still the boys and girls have put in a super-human effort that has brought a number of positives. Among them are names like PR Sreejesh in Indian men’s hockey, Sushila Chanu in women’s hockey, Dipa Karmakar in gymnastics. Their efforts have gone a long way in cementing India’s position as a sporting nation even though they have not been able to mount the podium as yet. Now, we are in the third day of the event and and things are heating up as the sportsmen increasingly get used to the conditions and throw caution and initial jitters to the wind to perform at the highest levels possible. As the competition heats up, the games get more and more enthralling.

We have already seen the Indian sportsmen perform and perish in a number of events and as they make their way out, others are left in the ring to carry the Indian flag. With that in mind, we list here a number of events that are going to happen today. Some of India’s most iconic sportsmen will play today. Among them are archer Laxmirani Majhi, who has had a taste of victory as well as a defeat as part of the Indian Archery team in the recurve event. She will be participating in the Women’s Individual 1/32 Eliminations event today and would be hoping to make her efforts count for the country.

The other Indian sportsmen to take to the field includes the men’s hockey team. They have registered a victory in their first outing against the tough Irish side, but today face the much tougher challenge from Germany. PR Sreejesh and Sardar Singh would be hoping to bring the high-flying Germans to the ground.

Another Indian hockey team to be seen in action today will be the women;’s hockey team. They have managed to draw with Japan in their first match, but will need to raise their game as they come face to face with a much better Great Britain team that has been in sparkling form. The opposition is swift and strong, but the Indian girls would be looking to make their hockey skills and stickwork count.

After a disappointing day 2 in the shooting arena when medal prospect Heena Sidhu was eliminated in 10m air pistol event, stepping out for India on day 3 will be iconic players Abhinav Bindra and Gagan Narang. They are some of the most respected Indian sportsmen ever and would look to bring glory and yes, medals for the country.

The excitement for the Indian fans is not restricted to that only. There is more. There is also the swimming event to happen today where the Indian sportsmen will be looking for some valuable experience. Here, it will be more about participation than winning, but nevertheless, the swimmers would be looking to give a tough fight to the opponents.
