While no one doubts Sindhu's tutelage under her present coach P Gopichand, Telangana deputy chief minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali apparently thinks differently.
Does Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu need proper coaching, so that she can fetch gold at the next Olympics? While no one doubts Sindhu’s tutelage under her present coach P Gopichand, Telangana deputy chief minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali apparently thinks differently. Ali raked up a controversy today saying, the state government is “planning” to give “proper coaching” to Sindhu so that she can fetch gold medal next time.
Ali’s statement, however, didn’t go down well with fans who are still celebrating the success of Sindhu under the guidance of an “inspirational” Gopichand. Several fans took to the Twitter to “shut up” the minister, some even turned abusive over the bizarre statement. “There can’t be a better coach than Gopichand, wat do u mean by proper coaching you moron,” tweeted one user who identifies himself as Ratnakar Sadasyula, author of ‘City of Victory’. “Dy CM of Telangana,Mahmood Ali must know that Sindhu’s coach Gopi Chand is the best.Ali shud avoid foolish statement,” commented another user, Sadhana Tiwari. Several users even suggested that the minister himself requires coaching to speak properly.
After winning a billion hearts from Brazil, PV Sindhu on Monday arrived to a hero’s welcome at Hyderabad International airport. Amid scenes of jubilation and loud cheers from scores of people, Sindhu, accompanied by coach Pullela Gopichand, was greeted by her parents — P V Ramana and P Vijaya — besidesTelangana Deputy Chief Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali, and some ministers from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. “We are very happy to receive Sindhu. The CM has arranged a very good reception for her, we will go to Gachibowli (stadium) from here and then we will disperse from there”, said PV Sindhu’s father. Scores of fans thronged the airport to witness the celebratory atmosphere.
