Ahead of the Rio Olympics 2016, India's strong contingent for the games, got a setback, when wrestler Narsingh Pancham Yadav, tested positive for a banned substance came to light on Sunday. National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), conducted a test a few weeks ago, on the 74kg freestyle wrestler, for which he tested positive for a banned steroid. An Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel (ADDP) will look into the matter and hear the case, and if found guilty Narsingh may be suspended from participation in the sport for four years. Yadav had beaten Sushil Kumar the wrestler who has two Olympic gold medals, in a qualifier to enter Olympics. Narsingh has always been an outsider in the akhadas and dangals of India, but he made his way into the circuit with sheer hard work and perseverence. Whether the sustance abuse was deliberate of a conspiracy, remains to be seen. Here are a few facts to know about the wrestler: 1. A Deputy Superintendent of Police, was born in Uttar Pradesh, Narsingh Yadav and his brother have been training to be a wrestler since 2002. 2. Yadav won his first international gold medal at the Asian Championships 2010, in the 74-kg freestyle category. The same year he won another gold at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. In 2011, he won the silver at the Commonwealth Championship. At both the Asian Games 2014 and 2015 Yadav won the bronze medal. 3. In 2012 Olympics in London, Yadav lost his bout against Canada's Matt Gentry. 4. Yadav made the headlines by winning the bronze medal by beating Zelimkhan Khadjiev of France 5:0 at the 2015 World Wrestling Championships. 5. He received a mail from National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) on June 19 which said he had failed a dope test. 6. Narsingh has claimed that the 'tested positive' is a conspiracy against him, and by people who do not want him to go to the Olympics. According to his interview in THE INDIAN EXPRESS, he has undergone almost 25-30 dope tests and cleared each and every one. 7. His roommate Sandeep Yadav (2013 World Championship bronze medallist in Greco-Roman style) has also been tested positive for the same substance Metadienone. Narsingh said in the interview, that they eat the same food and take the same supplements, and that someone must have mixed the banned substance in one of these. 8. Metadienone, the drug Yadav has been tested positive for, is an anabolic steroid, which helps in muscle building and performance enhancing, was famous in the 1960s when Arnold Schwarzenegger's muscles were associated with the drug.
