Run for Rio: With a high-spirited note and a motivating speech, PM Narendra Modi on Sunday flagged off the run organized ahead of Rio Olympics 2016. The run shall start from Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium and conclude at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to flag off ‘Run for Rio’ in Delhi’s Major Dhyanchand National Stadium, today. PM Modi will also release a publication of SAI on ‘Indian Olympic Journey’, which will carry information on India’s Olympic achievements and preparations for the future.
“The objective of the run is to not only demonstrate to our athletes that the whole country is proud of them and
wishing them all the best in the forthcoming Rio Olympics, but also to connect public at large, especially children and youth, with the Olympic spirit and power of sports,” Sports Minister Vijay Goel, who is personally supervising the preparations, said in a statement.

08.17 am: We didn’t get a lot of time to prepare this time. If you compare the statistics, we have in proved since the last few years. Earlier, players used to arrive at the location 2 days before the Olympics, thereby little time was in their hands. However, this time we have sent them 15 days before so that they can adjust in that location and perform their utmost, said PM Narendra Modi.

The event shall commence from Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium and conclude at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and is expected see a footfall of over 20,000 children.

Delhi Police will look after the security arrangements throughout the route. Screens will be installed at strategic points for enabling participants to witness the address of Prime Minister before he flags off the Run.
