Ashwin has been India's go-to bowler in almost all formats, in sub-continental conditions for over four years now. Ever since India won the 50 overs World Cup at home, Ashwin marked his presence at the highest level by justifying his selection; a big thanks to Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who has been a big support to the Tamil Nadu off-spinner since Indian Premier League's (IPL) inception way back in 2008

He went past former Indian fast bowler Javagal Srinath to become India’s 7th highest wicket-taker in Tests, taking his total tally to 239 wickets. He achieved this coveted feet when he dismissed English all-rounder Moeen Ali for 50 on day-1 of the fourth Test played at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. At the close of play on Day-1, England reached a competitive 288/5, with Ben Stokes (25*) and Jos Buttler (18*) at crease. Fortune smiled on Ashwin after India’s then dependable spinner Harbhajan Singh started fading away, losing out on form in India’s tour of England and Australia in 2012, where India was white-washed 0-4 on both the occasions. Since, then Ashwin has become India’s main spin weapon ahead of anyone else, at least in the Indian sub-continent. The form he is in, fans might be wishing that he soon improves on his dismal record outside Asia, mainly in Tests.
