Remember the 90s? The most talked about trio in the cricketing world was of Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara and Shane Warne. They were possibly the three best players to have come out during the period. For years these players competed against each other on the cricketing field but outside the ground, it was a different story altogether. They showed mutual respect to each other and formed one of the most talked about friendships in the history of sports. A recent selfie, that has nothing to do with cricket, that was posted by Olympic gold medalist Carolina Marin has only re-established the fact that what happens on field, stays on the field.

The Spanish badminton player posted a selfie with two of her biggest rivals: India’s PV Sindhu and Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara. After being beaten by Marin in the Rio Olympics, Sindhu got her revenge in 2017 as she beat the Spaniard in the Indian Open to win the title. Last month, Sindhu was beaten by Okuhara at the World Championship final. However, the Indian shuttler once again took her revenge by defeating the Japanese to win the Korea Open title.

“We’ve played a lot of long matches actually, so don’t remember the first. Almost all are 3 games except at Rio. She’s a rally player. Long, long rallies in long, long matches,” Sindhu told The Indian Express about her rivalry with Marin. “She has good strokes, picks every shuttle, and is very patient. She is doing really well,” she added.

The trio is once again set to take on each other at the Japan Open Super Series. Sindhu had missed the tournament last year and would be hoping to add another feather to her cap. “Coming every year, there’s nothing new about it. Same courts, nothing different,” she said.

The image posted by Marin was also retweeted by Sindhu and Okuhara which was a clear signal that the rivalry between these players is a healthy one and they enjoy every moment of it.
