Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain’s journey at the Paris Games came to an end on Sunday as she lost a hard-fought quarterfinal bout to China’s Li Qian in the women’s 75kg boxing category. Borgohain was defeated 1-4 in a closely contested match that saw both boxers repeatedly cautioned for clinching and holding.

Borgohain’s Quarterfinal Defeat Ends India’s Boxing Campaign

The loss marked the end of India’s boxing campaign at the Paris Olympics. Earlier, Nishant Dev had been eliminated from the men’s 71kg quarterfinals on Saturday night, leaving the Indian boxing team without further representation in the Games.

Borgohain’s exit concludes a challenging Olympics for the Indian boxing contingent, which had sent a team of six athletes, including four women and two men, to Paris. Despite the setback, the participation of these athletes highlighted India’s continued presence and competitiveness in the sport on the global stage.
