Indian grappler Nisha Dahiya won her opening women’s freestyle 68kg bout at the Paris Olympics on Monday, defeating Ukraine’s Sova Rizhko 6-4.

Competing as India’s sole representative in the heavyweight category, Nisha, who is a silver medallist from the Asian Championships, overcame her Ukrainian opponent with relative ease.

In the quarterfinal match, she will face Pak Sol Gum of North Korea.

Nisha Dahiya advanced to the Women’s Freestyle 68kg quarterfinals, while wrestler Lakshya Sen lost the bronze medal playoff. All of these occurred following China’s defeat of Indian shooters Anant Jeet Singh Naruka and Maheshwari Chauhan in the bronze medal play-off for the skeet mixed team event.

The Indian women’s table tennis team advanced to the quarterfinals with a historic 3-2 victory over Romania earlier. In heat five of the women’s 400-meter race, Kiran Pahal placed seventh.
