Stumps, Day 3: A frustrating end to a promising day for Virat Kohli and team. They were on top of the opposition in the first session and pushed them in a deep hole by picking up three wickets before lunch. But, Shakin Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim and surprise package, Mehedi Hasan ensured that Bangladesh is not out of the match yet. While Shakib took on the bowlers and went for his strokes, Rahim and Mehedi Hasan very calculative with their approach.

India’s decision to play with three fast bowlers looked to have backfired as the batsmen looked very comfortable against the seamers after lunch. Somebody like Jayant Yadav could have been very useful when the partnerships were building as he proved against England.

This is only the third time Bangladesh have scored more than 300 runs against India in their 9 Tests. They will take a lot of heart from that performance and may comeback with lot more confidence tomorrow morning. India still have an upper hand in this match but Kohli have wanted his side to dominate the match, especially after the early breakthroughs in the first session.

Here are the live cricket scores and updates from the Hyderabad Test between India and Bangladesh:

4:32 PM: Stumps, Day 3: Bangladesh – 322/6

Mushfiqur Rahim – 81* (206)

Mehedi Hasan – 51* (103)

4:30 PM: That last ball from Ishant Sharma took off at an awkward height and hit Mushfiqur Rahim on his finger. He was in pain but the little man got up and smashed Sharma for a four! That’s 3000 runs for him in Test cricket, becomes the 4th Bangladesh batsman to do so.

4:25 PM: Fifty for Mehedi Hasan, a brilliant knock. He must be proud of that innings. He batted beautifully under pressure.

4:06 PM: We are into the final 30 minutes of the day and India is still searching for that opening. The problem with Kohli is that none of his top six fall in the category of part-time bowlers.

The only two batsmen who could roll their arms are Virat Kohli and Murali Vijay but neither of them is known for picking wickets.

3:42 PM: A slow but good partnership for Bangladesh. These two batsmen have added 45 runs now. This is a frustrating period for Indian bowlers. Mushfiqur Rahim is batting on 65 while young Mehedi Hasan is on 29.

3:25 PM: Scoring rate has gone down drastically. India is searching for that one breakthrough. If these two guys keep batting for another 30 minutes, it will certainly frustrate Virat Kohli and Indian bowlers .

3:10 PM: The partnership is now 26 runs from 71 balls. A smart approach by both the batsmen. They are slowing taking the scoreboard ahead. But, Bangladesh are still 426 runs behind so they have a long way to go.

2:55 PM: Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim completes his 16th Test half-century. Here’s the controversial run-out call he survived:

2:50 PM: Mehedi Hasan is looking solid. He has few half-centuries to his name in domestic cricket, Bangladesh will take some inspiration from that. Rahim’s game has completely changed since the wicket of Shakin Al Hasan, he is more defensive now.

2:35 PM: So we are back live! Spinners are getting some help now. It’s going to be a test for the young Mehedi Hasan. Good shot by him, on top of the ball and cut it past the point fielder.

2:15 PM: Tea Day 3, It was a good session of cricket shared between both the sides. We saw some fantastic strokeplay by Shakib Al Hasan and he built a good partnership between Mushfiqur Rahim before the Indian spinners brought the side back into the game.

2:00 PM: Runs have slowed once again. The partnership is just 18 runs from 51 balls but the target for Rahim and Rahman now would be make sure that Bangladesh don’t get all out today so that there is a chance of taking this game to a draw.

1:35 PM: OUT! Big wicket for India and Ashwin gets it. Shakib Al Hasan gets out to Ravichandran Ashwin for 82. He was flirting with danger and finally got out to a loose stroke.

1:00 PM: This is a very good phase for Bangladesh. Shakib is full of confidence an Rahim is complementing him as well. Yes, both these batsmen have had their anxious moments but they have added 80 runs now from just 118 balls.

12:55 PM: Both these batsmen are fighting hard for the visitors:

12:40 PM: An umpiring blunder or a great call? It’s hard to tell but Mushfiqur Rahim survived by less than an inch. It’s difficult to say if he had made his crease but Shaikb did his job by saying ‘NO’ at the right time.

12:35 PM: Half-century for Shakib Al Hasan, 21st of his Test career. He is fighter and he has proved it once again today. While other batsmen are struggling, he reached his fifty off just 70 balls and 40 of those runs came in boundaries.

12:25 PM: Decent start to the second session for India. Both Ashwin and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have found their rhythm. Only 25 runs have come from last 10 overs so life hasn’t been easy for the Bangladesh batsmen.

12:10 PM: So we are back live after the lunch break. Ravichandran Ashwin will start the proceedings for India.

12:05 PM: Watch Umesh Yadav’s brilliant throw to dismiss Tamim Iqbal:

11:35 AM: That’s Lunch! A good first session for India where the fast bowlers dominated the game and both Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma picked up a wicket each. But, the most disappointing part for Bangladesh must have the departure of Tamim Iqbal.

It came at a very wrong time and allowed India to dominate the session. Umesh Yadav was certainly the star for India but credit must be given to Ishant Sharma as well. Even though he has only one wicket to show against his name, he was impressive as well asking questions from the batsmen.

Captain Mushfiqur Rahim is the new batsman in.

11:15 AM: So far its been a disastrous day for Bangladesh but they have their two most experienced batsmen on crease now, who only few weeks ago broke the record of highest Test partnership for Bangladesh for any wicket. Fans would be hoping for similar heroics from them.

OUT! Ishant Sharma strikes, 4th wicket down for Bangladesh. Bowling changed has worked for India, good call by the umpire too. Mahmudullah departs for 28. He did ask for the review but the decision didn’t go in his favour.

11:00 AM: 90 minutes since the start of the play and we are yet to see Ravichandran Ashwin bowl.  In fact, he has bowled just 2 overs in this innings so far, a strange strategy by Virat Kohli.

10:45 AM: Umesh Yadav has been quick, fast and furious so far. It was one of the best spells by an Indian fast bowler in the recent times. He has already picked two important wickets in this innings.

10:34 AM: Shakib Al Hasan has started his innings with aggression and that’s a strong statement that he won’t let the scoreboard pressure take control of him. Virat Kohli won’t mind that either as it gives his bowlers more opportunities of picking wickets.

10:28 AM: Umesh Yadav has been very impressive today:

Shakib al Hasan is the new batsman.

10:15 AM: OUT! Umesh Yadav has trapped Mominul Haque in front of the wicket, finger goes up and another wicket for India. He is out for 12. That was a brilliant ball by Umesh Yadav, he is swinging the ball both ways right now.

The ball has started to turn now and there is some bounce as well for the spinner. Jadeja is looking dangerous and Kohli might be tempted to throw the ball to Ashwin soon.

10:00 AM: That was a close call against Mahmudullah. The ball was missing the leg stump but Kohli was confident so he went for the DRS. However, the replay showed it was not out, so India have lost their review and Mahmudullah survives. Ravindra Jadeja is now into the attack for the first time.

9:45 AM: OUT! Big wicket for India, Tamim Iqbal departs without adding to his score. He must be gutted with himself, bad running between the wickets. It was a brilliant throw as well by Umesh Yadav, there was never a run there.

9:30 AM: Good morning folks! We are back live. Tamim Iqbal and Mominul Haq are out in the middle so is Virat Kohli and team. It is going to be an exciting first session, two wicket here and it will be game over for Bangladesh. Bhuvneshwar Kumar will start for India.

9:10 AM: Tamim Iqbal averages over 50 in Test matches in Asia in last two years. He is going to be the key wicket for India today. They need to get him out early to push Bangladesh further back.

Meanwhile, India’s slip cordon is getting ready for the match:

In reply to India’s strong total, Bangladesh started off well and both the openers Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar looked good but Umesh Yadav pulled the final punch by dismissing Soumya Sarkar just 16 balls before stumps. Tamim Iqbal (24) and Mominul Haq (1) were at the crease at stumps.

It was a special day for the Indian captain who scored his 4th Test double century in as many series to surpass Australian legend Sir Donald Bradman and India’s Rahul Dravid. He now also has 4 double centuries as India’s captain which is second most behind Brian Lara who has 5 such knocks to his name.

Wriddhiman Saha and Ajinkya Rahane have also shined in their comeback games reconquering their sots in the side.

Playing XI:

India – Murali Vijay, Lokesh Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli(c), Ajinkya Rahane, Wriddhiman Saha(w), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma.
