Fifth seed Kei Nishikori has pulled out of Wimbledon Championships with a calf injury ahead of his second round contest.

Nishikori, who claimed a hard-fought five set win over Simone Bolelli in the opening round, was scheduled to play against Santiago Giraldo on Center Court.

The 25-year-old said that he thought he would be okay but he decided not to play after it was hurting him too much in the fifth set of the last match, the BBC reported.

Nishikori was the runner-up in the 2014 US Open, losing the finale to Marin Cilic.
