Mumbai Indians booked a berth in the finals of the IPL 2019 after beating Chennai Super Kings by six wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Tuesday. MI successfully chased down 132 in 18.3 overs. Suryakumar Yadav was adjudged the man-of-the-match for his knock of 71 in 54 balls.
Chennai Super Kings could manage only 131 for 4 in the first Qualifier. Ambati Rayudu top scored with 42, while MS Dhoni scored 37. In the end, CSK were 10 runs short of the par score.
On a turning Chepauk track, the spin trio of Krunal Pandya, Rahul Chahar and Jayant Yadav put the brakes on the Chennai batting lineup. While Chahar ended with figures of 2 for 14, Pandya and Yadav picked a wicket each.
Dhoni-led CSK will get another shot to make it to the finals when they face the winner of the Eliminator between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals.
In the post-match press conference, Dhoni said that hopefully CSK will crack the code in the next match. “I feel we could’ve bowled better… once you don’t have enough runs, every boundary hurts you. After a good start with the ball, we kept giving boundaries. The good thing is you have another crack after a top-two finish,” Dhoni said.
