Interestingly, West Indian great Chris Gayle, who is an IPL legend, went unsold in the first two rounds, but was eventually bought by the Kings XI Punjab at his base price of Rs 2 crore. Hashim Amla who was one of the leading run-scorers of last year’s Indian Premier League also failed to find a buyer and went unsold. England captain Eoin Morgan and Joe Root, who entered the IPL auction for the first time went unsold as well.

For the most part of the IPL auction 2018, none of the Sri Lankan players were able to attract a bid and it appeared as if the nation will have no participation this year. However, just moments before the conclusion of the auction, Akila Dananjaya was bought for his base price of Rs 50 lakh. And some more good news came when Dushmantha Chameera became the second Sri Lankan to be signed up after the Royals paid Rs 50 lakh for the medium pacer.
