Sunrisers Hyderabad are heading for a major blow in the Indian Premier League 2019 as their in-form opener Jonny Bairstow will be leaving the squad on April 23 to go back home to join England team ahead of ICC World Cup.

Bairstow has confirmed that he will play two more IPL games for the Sunrisers, the first being against Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday and the next against the defending champions Chennai Super Kings on April 23 in Chennai. All the English players featuring in the ongoing IPL season are supposed to return to England to join their national team later next week.

At present, Bairstow is placed at the fifth place in the list of highest run-getters in the IPL 2019. Making his IPL debut for Hyderabad-based franchise, the opener has scored 365 runs so far in eight games at an average of 52.14, including a hundred and a half-century.

“So far it has gone well. To be in the top five leading run-scorers…it is really very pleasing. Hopefully I can finish on a high in the next two games as well and we could be in the position to make the play-offs by the time I leave,” said Bairstow on the eve of their home game against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Another SRH opener Australian David Warner may also leave the SRH camp to join his teammates on international duty towards the end of April. He has been framed into Australia’s World Cup squad announced on April 15. He will be flying back to Brisbane towards the end of April for a training camp ahead of the World Cup 2019. Warner has smashed an impressive 450 runs in 8 matches this IPL season and is the current Orange Cap holder.

Bairstow formed one of the deadliest opening combinations in the ongoing IPL season with Australian batsman David Warner. The duo provided support to their team in challenging times and rode them to victory on several occasions. Bairstow and Warner are the first opening pair to be involved in 3 successive 100-run stands. In SRH’s last game, Bairstow knocked an unbeaten 61 and Warner slammed a 25-ball fifty to take their team to third victory against CSK in IPL history. The two SRH openers are expected to meet on the cricket ground in the England-Australia World Cup warm-up match on May 25.

Before the commencement of the World Cup, England will play a lone ODI against Ireland on May 3 and then the limited overs series against Pakistan, comprising one T20I and five ODIs, commencing May 5.

England is scheduled to play two warm-up matches against Australia and Afghanistan on May 25 and 27 before the start of the marquee event on May 30. Bairstow forms an important part of England’s World Cup squad.
