IPL 2018: With Indian Premier League just a couple of months away, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday, invited ‘expressions of interest’ for the IPL partner rights. “The BCCI invites third parties to indicate their interest in acquiring any of the following rights: IPL Official Partner Rights, IPL Strategic Time Out Partner Rights and IPL Umpire Partner Rights,” it was said in a media release. The rights will be available for a minimum three-year term. “No more than one-third party will be granted rights in relation to each Product Category,” it said. BCCI “intends (but shall not be obliged) to appoint up to a maximum of six Official Partners, one Strategic Timeout Partner and one Umpire Partner,” it added. Meanwhile, last year in 2017, Star India completed its virtual monopoly of cricket broadcast by winning the coveted Indian Premier League (IPL) media rights for a whopping 16,347.50 crore (USD 2.55 billion) for the next five years.
