KKR wins it after an early hiccup as they knock out the defending champions SRH by 7 wickets. The bowling unit of KKR led by Nathan Coulter-Nile and Umesh Yadav stood firm and didn’t allow the SRH batsmen to score easy runs. Now they face Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians in the 2nd Qualifier!!
Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad have so many things in common. They are two of the most balanced and powerful sides on paper in this year’s Indian Premier League, both these teams are led by two left-handed opening batsmen who have been in superb form and they have won a title each at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy stadium in the past. However, one of these sides will be out of the tournament tonight at the same venue.
Here are live updates from KKR vs SRH match:
1:40 AM: Nathan Coulter-Nile has been adjusted the Man of the Match for his outstanding bowling figures of 3/20 off 4 overs.
1:25 AM: KKR chases down the meagre total of 48 runs inside 6 overs. Manish Pandey’s replacement Ishank Jaggi hits the winning runs. Gautam Gambhir’s men now will play Mumbai Indians in the Qualifier-2 on Friday.
1:10 AM: Gautam Gambhir holds fort as KKR gradually marches towards Qualifier-2 to meet Mumbai Indians. It will be for the 3rd time that Gambhir’s men will meet Rohit’s XI.
1:02 AM: Seems like KKR is in a hurry. They lose their third wicket. This time it’s Robin Uthappa. The score reads 12/3.
12:58 AM: Another one bites the dust. Yusuf Pathan goes off the first ball. Great athleticism from purple cap holder Bhuvneshwar Kumar as he runs out Yusuf!!
12:56 AM: SRH strikes!! The big fish ‘Chris Lynn’ is gone.
12:50 AM: Finally we have a game here!! KKR have been set a target of 48 runs from 6 overs. We wil have just 2 overs of power play.
9:36 PM: So, that’s it! The target for KKR is only 129. But, the bigger worry at this moment is that it is raining at Chinnaswamy and it is getting heavier as well. Watch some blows by David Warner:
9:30 PM: The score is only 125/6 with just 3 balls to go. Things are not looking good for Sunrisers Hyderabad at this moment.
9:24 PM: OUT! Vijay Shankar departs as well. Another big blow for SRH. They have failed to build any kind of momentum in this inning.
9:21 PM: SIX! This time it’s Nama Ojha. It is turning out to be a good over. 12 runs off it, still 2 balls to go.
9:17 PM: 100 up for Sunrisers Hyderabad. After the end of 17th over, they are at 105/4. They need to make the best of last three overs otherwise KKR will run away with the match.
9:10 PM: GONE! OUT! Yuvraj Singh departs too. Huge blow for Hyderabad. It’s Umesh Yadav who has got the breakthrough. SRH is in deep trouble now.
SRH – 99/4 (15.3)
Vijay Shankar – 15* (10)
9:06 PM: SIX! It’s Vijay Shankar this time. He is making the best use of his form. Hyderabad needs more of those.
9:05 PM: FOUR! Yuvraj gets the move on. Anything pitched up and he is going to smash it, takes the score to 91/3.
9:01 PM: Sunil Narine is back into the attack. He has two overs left and these will be very crucial. SRH need to play him sensibly.
8:59 PM: Yuvraj Singh is off the mark with a beautiful boundary. This inning is all about him now. He needs to go MS Dhoni way.
8:55 PM: OUT! BOWLED! Piyush Chawla gets the big wicket, David Warner departs for 37, SRH is in trouble.
8:53 PM: OUT! GONE! SRH lose their 2nd wicket. Kane Williamson is caught at covers. The score is now 75/2. Yuvraj Singh walks in.
8:42 PM: At the end of 9th over, SRH is at 48/1. This is clearly not the kind of start the team wanted.
8:34 PM: Piyush Chawla comes into the attack and David Warner smashes it for a SIX! He has replaced Kuldeep Yadav in the playing XI and will be under a lot of pressure now.
8:28 PM: SRH have failed to make the best use of first 6 overs and that will put a lot of pressure on the middle order. Only 30 runs came in the powerplay but David Warner is still in there.

8:13 PM: Both the teams have picked an interesting side for this match:
Both teams going in with just five bowlers and a bit here and there. Batting the likely differentiator today

7:34 PM: Four changes for KKR. Manish Pandey is injured so SuryaKumar Yadav comes in. Also Piyush Chawla, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Ishank Jaggi are in.
7:30 PM: Good evening folks! It’s toss time. Both the captains are out in the middle. Gautam Gambhir has won the toss and he has decided to bowl first.
7:20 PM: Watch SRH players answering some questions:
About 12 months ago, Sunrisers Hyderabad finished an incredible season by lifting the IPL trophy and have carried their form this season. David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan have been superb this season and have been supported by a strong middle-order that includes the likes of Yuvraj Singh, Moises Henriques and Deepak Hooda. However, the biggest asset for them this season have been the two Afghan players: Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi.
Watch KKR’s 10-year celebrations:
On the other hand, Gautam Gambhir has turned everything he has touched into gold this season. His experiments of promoting Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine to open the batting have proved right and Robin Uthappa has also got his form back. The only disappointment so far has been Yusuf Pathan who hasn’t really got going but the big man likes big games and KKR would back him to come good in the all-important game.
6:55 PM: It is expected to be a warm day in Bengaluru with high possibility of rain. Hope that we get a full game.
6:45 PM: Trent Boult and Umesh Yadav are set for the big match. The two fast bowlers will have a big role to play against Sunrisers Hyderabad’s batting line-up.
