World number one Serena Williams has pulled out of the Swedish Open after suffering from an elbow injury during the practice after her first round in Bastad.

The six-time Wimbledon champion was set to lock horns with Klara Koukalova in the second round, who has now advanced to the quarterfinals by walkover.

The 33-year old said that she was having some pain in her right elbow, Sport24 reported.

She also said that she felt a little bit in her match the earlier day and it got better, but then the next morning she could not hit the serves and that was a big problem for her.

The American swept to a sixth Wimbledon title on Saturday, her 21st career major and her third in three Grand Slam events this year.

Serena is scheduled to play in Stanford, Toronto and Cincinnati before the US Open, which starts in August.
