At 759/7d vs England, Indian cricket team scores its highest ever Test match runs

While newcomer Karun Nair broke a lot of records on the way to his maiden triple century, the Indian team broke a new one. India scored its highest ever test match score in an innings.

While newcomer Karun Nair broke a lot of records on the way to his maiden triple century, the Indian team broke a new one. India scored its highest ever test match score in an innings. The team declared after scoring 759 for a loss of 7 wickets. The Indian team played for 190.4 overs at a strike rate of 3.98 vs England at Chennai on the 4th day of the 4th Test. As Karun Nair reached a score of 303 in 381 balls, India got a whopping lead of 282 runs ahead of England. This is a huge lead, given England had batted decently well in the first innings and had scored 477 runs. In the Indian team, openers KL Rahul and Parthiv Patel gave a brilliant start of 152 runs, even though Patel came right after keeping wickets for 157 overs against England. After Patel got out for 71, Rahul continued his amazing display of shots and completed his century. Following this, captain Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara could not impress much with the bat and get out too soon. But Then came the man of the moment Karun Nair. Together Nair and Rahul, both teammates for the Karnataka team scored played some fine cricket before Rahul got unlucky and got out for 199.

After this Nair was ably supported by Murali Vijay who did not open this innings this time, and later R Ashwin who played a fine knock of 67 runs. Following this, Ravindra Jadeja made a quick fire 51 off 55 balls. Meanwhile, Nair kept on scoring, sometimes watching the ball carefully and sometimes hitting the cherries out of the park. Nair played like a dream as India reached its highest ever score in international Test match cricket. It was also the highest ever individual score by an Indian against England. With such a huge margin, it won’t is surprising if England loses on day 5, by an innings.Before this, the highest score by India was against Sri Lanka, in 2009 in the 3rd test at Mumbai. India had scored 726 with a loss of 9 wickets. In that match legend, Virender Sehwag could not complete his triple century as he was caught and bowled out by M. Muralitharan at a score of 293. Former caption MS Dhoni also made a century. The highest ever test score by a team is held by Sri Lanka against India itself, when it scored 952 runs at a loss of 6 wickets at Colombo in the year 1997.
