Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant made a triumphant return to the ICC Test rankings, securing an impressive sixth place following his stellar century against Bangladesh in Chennai. Pant’s score of 731 points marks his re-entry into the rankings, making him one of India’s top performers in the standings.
Meanwhile, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal moved up to fifth with 751 points after a solid half-century in the same match. However, India’s skipper Rohit Sharma and veteran batter Virat Kohli experienced a significant drop. Despite remaining in the top ten, Rohit slipped five places to 10th with 716 rating points after two subpar performances. Kohli also fell five spots, exiting the top 10 and landing in 12th place.
Elsewhere in international cricket, Sri Lanka’s Prabath Jayasuriya made waves in the bowling rankings, rising five spots to eighth after a dominant nine-wicket haul against New Zealand in Galle. Jayasuriya, with 743 points, now holds the highest ranking for a Sri Lankan player across all disciplines, surpassing teammate Asitha Fernando, who dropped to 13th.
In the ODI format, Afghan star Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Australian Travis Head both surged into the top 10 in batting rankings. Gurbaz, who celebrated his seventh ODI century before turning 23, climbed ten spots to eighth with 692 points, making him the first Afghan batter to reach the top 10. He edged out Head, who jumped to ninth with 684 points, largely due to his unbeaten 154 in the first of five ODIs against England.
Afghanistan’s rise continued with leg-spinner Rashid Khan moving up to third in the ODI Bowling Rankings, following his seven-wicket performance in the team’s historic series win over South Africa, their first-ever victory against a top-five ranked side.
