Indian women cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur who helped India enter into the final of the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup by smashing 171 runs against Australia, has finally got the clearance to join Punjab Police as DSP. The development was confirmed by Haramanpreet through a tweet in which she also thanked Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Union Railways minister Piyush Goyal for their support. “Excited about joining @PunjabPolice as DSP. Thank you Chief Minister @capt_amarinder Ji for pursuing my bond waiver with @RailMinIndia. Your support & encouragement will always keep me motivated to deliver my best. And thank you also @PiyushGoyal Ji for your help in the matter,” Kaur wrote in her tweet.
Harmanpreet Kaur who was employed by the Western Railway was offered the job of DSP in July 2017. However, she was not being relieved by Railways citing a five-year bond signed by her earlier. Harmanpreet had claimed that she was not paid any salary for last five months. Talking to The Indian Express, Kaur had revealed that Railways was asking for Rs 27 lakh to relieve her even though she had worked for only three years.

Harmanpreet had said that even after 5 months she wasn’t paid her salary which means that she is jobless. The all-rounder who also took part in the Big Bash League said that neither she was getting any salary from Railway nor from Punjab government.
Punjab CM Amarinder Singh had written a letter to the Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal requesting him to consider Harmanpreet’s case on “a different footing and accept her resignation from the Railways for joining Punjab Police in the rank of DSP by granting her relaxation, if any, from the conditions of bond.”
In her letter, Amarinder Singh had requested to consider Harmanpreet Kaur’s case as she wasn’t leaving the government for a private job. The Punjab CM wrote that the cricketer is only joining the state government from Central government for better career prospects.
