FIFA U-17 Football World Cup: As India gets set to host one of its biggest ever sporting events, FIFA U-17 Football World Cup, football fever has started to rise in the country. With Barcelona and Spain legend Carles Puyol already in the country to promote the tournament, the Sports Ministry has now announced it will host a Mini Football Fest in national capital Delhi, tomorrow. The news was confirmed by a statement by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports on Wednesday.
The Mini Football Fest will be organised in Delhi’s Connaught Place in the presence of Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports Vijay Goel, Chief Minister of Manipur, Shri Biren Singh and renowned boxer, Shri Vijender Singh, stated the press release. It also added that a super-sized football will also be unveiled during the event that will create a buzz for the upcoming World Cup which is scheduled to take place in India in October this year.

Vijay Goel has taken some steps in order to promote football in the country and his latest attempt includes roping in the chief minister of Manipur, Biren Singh who has been a footballer himself. On the other hand, Goel has said that he will take extensive tours across the venues to ensure that all the preparations for the tournament are going on swiftly. The Sports Minister has visited Kochi, Kolkata and Mumbai. He will also visit Guwahati soon, to take stock of the preparations.
The tournament will be played between October 6 and October 28 across different venues. The final of the tournament will be played at Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium. It is for the first time that India is set to host a FIFA World Cup, in any form. The Government has already kicked off Mission 11 Million to push the football frenzy further and take football to 11 million kids across India. This move will enable the creation of a sports culture, as well as nurture and train budding young talent, mentioned the press release.
