World number one Novak Djokovic overcame a stern challenge from persistent Andreas Seppi to progress through to the fourth round of the Australian Open on Friday.
The Serbian defending champion claimed a hard-fought 6-1, 7-5, 7-6 (6) win over Seppi at Margaret Court Arena. He will next face French 14th seed Gilles Simon for a quarterfinal spot.
In the women’s singles, top seed Serena Williams marched into the Australian Open fourth round with a 6-1, 6-1 demolition of hapless teenager Daria Kasatkina, Sport24 reported.
Serena, a six-time winner at Melbourne, outmuscled the Russian in just 44 minutes, the shortest match of the tournament so far.
