Deepika Padukone’s new Nike ad is creating a buzz on social media, not only for the fact that it prompts one to play a sport, but also for the inspirational nature of the musical video advertisement.
The video titled “Da Da Ding” has a peppy tune, and shows women playing various sport, from cricket, badminton to basketball among many others. What makes the video catchy is the fact that you feel an instant urge to get up and indulge in some form of sport or the other.
Padukone posted the video on her Facebook page, saying, “Sport has taught me how to handle failure. It has also taught me how to handle success. It has kept me grounded. It has taught me humility.”
At the time of writing this article, Padukone’s Facebook video views had crossed 2 million.
“Two years ago I struggled with depression. I was sinking. I almost gave up. But it was the athlete in me that gave me the strength to fight and never ever give up! And so I want to say to every girl and every boy and every woman and every man…play a sport…because it changed my life…and it will change yours too!” she says.
Nike has released this video just ahead of the Rio Olympics, in which 100 Indian athletes are participating, including many women. Even in the world of entertainment, there has been a shift, with Bollywood movies focusing on the lives of women sportsperson, be it Priyanka Chopra in Mary Kom or Anushka Sharma in Sultan.
