German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has ended his 17-year long love affair with Bayern Munich and will be joining Manchester United on a three-year contract subject to medical.
According to reports, it is believed that Schweinsteiger has told Bayern that he does not want to extend his contract, which goes up to 2016.
A club statement said that Manchester United were delighted to announce that they have reached an agreement with Bayern Munich to sign midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, subject to a medical and personal terms.
Bayern’s chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge also confirmed, saying that they have reached an agreement with Manchester United over a transfer, the BBC reported.
He further said that it was regrettable because Bastian meant a great deal to the club.
Schweinsteiger, who made his debut in 2002, has made 536 appearances for Bayern.
