Falcon Heavy launch: It takes a beat or two for the brain to compute what Elon Musk-owned SpaceX has already achieved. The image of a car floating in outer space is startling, barmy and incongruous. At the wheel of the car is a mannequin that Musk has named as 'Starman'. SpaceX CEO on Tuesday did the (im)possible when he sent a car aboard world's most powerful rocket- Falcon Heavy. The car that has now reached the beyond is the 2008 cherry red Roadster. Let's have a look at its launch (Twitter):
- The Falcon Heavy was launched from Cape Canaveral on Tuesday, watched by hundreds of thousands of people who crowded Florida’s space coast, eyes skyward (Twitter).
- On launch day, the company delayed for over three hours, citing high winds. Eventually when the wind died and the sky cleared, the Falcon – shrouded in steam and mist – took off to claim its place in space and history. (Twitter)
- Moments later the side boosters separated, beginning their choreographed dance back down to Earth. At the SpaceX launch centre, Life on Mars came on the sound system. (Twitter)
- In the meantime, the Roadster will be ploughing its lonely course through space. (Twitter)
- Musk took to Twitter to share the view that 'Starman' was enjoying from away and beyond. The earth never looked so beautiful and so mesmerising as it did through the eyes of 'Starman'. (Twitter)
